The future quay Louis II in the Port Hercules

The first of the four caissons that are to constitute the future quay Louis II, at the bottom of boulevard Louis II, arrived the last 21st in port Hercules. Weighing 2,500 tons, it is 42 meters long, 12 meters wide and 8 meters high (of which 5.5 m will be submerged). The structure is to be positioned on the corner of the new jetty below the Rainier III Auditorium and will be anchored on metal posts ballasted with reinforced concrete. Since work first began a year ago, two caissons have already been positioned in the outer harbor, at the tip of the North and South seawalls. This type of hollow structure was specifically chosen, rather than the filling technique, as it reduces the swell in the port. The three remaining caissons of quay Louis II are scheduled to arrive at the pace of one caisson every three weeks. The last caissons are scheduled to be delivered in spring 2007.
