Exhibition to Mongolia: the discoveries of the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology of Monaco
A journey back for Jérôme Magail, Anthropologist in the Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology of Monaco, Pierre-Yves Milcent, Conference Manager in the University of Toulouse and visiting researcher in the Research Unit of the Museum of Anthropology and Aurélia Cloarec, Ethnologist. The three scientists, all in their thirties, returned from a 20-day exhibition to the heart of Mongolia, 500 kilometers west of the capital Oulan-Bator, in the province of Arkhangaï. The purpose of their research conducted them on the site of Tsatsyn Ereg. They studied the tombs, the sacrificial sites and steles spread over two hundred hectares and furthermore, discovered the way of life of first nomadic tribes of the Steppes. The results of such exhibition are that they thought that there were 50 tombs but in fact there are 200. They identified 12 engraved steles and discovered a further four that the Mongolians themselves knew nothing about up to now. Now the next step of their research will be in June 2007 to leave for Mongolia and finish their report over there.
