CNN news came to Monaco thanks to Mark Collins who worked for the American television station while living in London. Monegasque pupils and their English teacher Elisabeth Gondeau from the Lycée Albert I, terminale S2, and European section enjoyed a lively two-hour interactive talk with Mr. Collins, at the Princess Grace Irish Library. The pupils, who speak fluent English, were delighted to learn the history of CNN, the American news television station, created in 1980 by Ted Turner, the iconic media mogul and philanthropist. Mark Collins, who worked for CNN in London, explained the ethos of his former employee, saying that Mr. Turner epitomized the qualities necessary for a successful and satisfying career.  ‘He is a visionary, a preserving man who is confident and at ease with himself. These qualities can be acquired by everyone, especially young people on the verge of launching their professional career.’ He went on to give advice to the students saying ‘It doesn’t matter what career you choose, whether it be as a musician, business person or artisan, as long as you maintain your vision and self-belief, you will be successful.’ Students thanked Mark Collins for the inspiring, helpful talk and advice and he in turn concluded with the positive and reassuring comment ‘With young people this smart, the future is bright.’ Mr. Collins is an Irish Citizen born in New York and today resides in Monaco.

The niche strategy has been applied very successfully at the International University of Monaco, where the postgraduate programmes are focused around three core business areas that suit the setting well – wealth and asset management, entrepreneurship and luxury goods and services. As associate dean of graduate programmes, and director of the executive MBA and Monaco MBA programmes, Boris Porkovich has both intimate knowledge of individual programmes and is in charge overall. UNESCO is launching an appeal for applications to the young executive programme for 2007. The programme aims to achieve the following objectives:
to improve geographical distribution within the Secretariat, to recruit younger executives and to improve female representation, to ensure continuity and efficiency in the Secretariat’s administrative services. The candidates will have to meet the following criteria: Be of Monegasque nationality, Have been under 30 years of age as of 1st May 2006, Hold a university degree in one of the following areas: Education (Higher Education, Promotion of State Education, Education Planning), Water Sciences (Water Management), Social and Humanitarian Sciences (Philosophy, Ethics of Science and Technology),
Culture (Protection and Promotion of Cultural Diversity), Information Management Systems (SAP), Financial Administration (Accounting, Financial Analysis, Budget), Possess an excellent knowledge of English or French. Knowledge of both UNESCO’s working languages is an asset. Application forms are available at the Department of External Relations, Place de la Visitation, 98000 Monaco. Candidates have to return their applications by 15 December at the latest.

The Italian Embassies in the Principality of Monaco and France, with the support of the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Nice, Sophia Antipolis and Côte d’ Azur, are organizing an event that will take place in Nice and partly in the Principality of Monaco on 4th and 5th December 2006. (more…)

After the success of the last high level Seminar devoted to “How Governments manage the new epidemics - Sharing the Bird flue experience” which took place last June in Monaco, Mr. Maksim Cikuli, Minister of Health of Albania invited the Monte-Carlo IUHEI to organize a second session on the same topic, but with a Regional dimension. Mr. Claude Gauthier, who lives in Monaco, is a recognized self-made man painter since 1965. This past policeman of the Sûreté Publique Department of Monaco, was appointed by Anatole Jakovsky, as the official painter of the International Naïve Art Museum of Nice. H.S.H. Prince Albert II himself speaks highly of his painting prowesses. (more…)

Cristiana Bindi, born in Sienne, Italy, is both a painter and a writter as well as a teacher. She will expose her personal painting art at the Jardin Exotique at the exposure gallery Marcel Kroenlein from September 16 to October 6, 2006. On September 26, the Salle Garnier of Monaco will welcome the theatre troupe of Charles Peguy, for the last show entitled “The charity’s mystery of Jeanne d’Arc”.
